Studio ST&AR profile

Studio ST&AR is an association between Stuart Thompson and André Rademeyer Architects and independent architectural technologists; Jason Lowson, and Matt Pretorius and Fred Steenkamp an architect in training.

Both Andre and Stuart have over 15 years experience in the local industry and have worked abroad in London and taught at the UCT School of Architecture. While teaching Stuart joined Andre in the Studio in Kalk Bay - and they formed a collaboration of independent practioners.

Since then they have done mainly residential work as far afield as Cape St. Francis and Baines Kloof. Projects range from conservation sensitive additions and contemporary new buildings to mixed use and small commercial developments and are driven by site responsive design solutions. An Events Architecture project has recently been completed for the City of Cape Town, representing the City's green goal at the Grand Parade FIFA fan fest during the 2010 World Cup.

We are currently researching sustainability issues focussing beyond "green" architecture and looking at whole, living and integrated systems thinking. Passive house or "Passivhaus" principles are being adopted where the brief calls for energy efficiency in the long term running of the building.

The Studio is an energetic collection of talented individuals, closely aligned with other dedicated specialists and professionals in the built environment.
